Little Consistent Steps…
I started doing a little math this week.
Running 4 miles takes me roughly 30 minutes. In the scheme of 24 hours, that’s not a lot of time.
A little bit of work for a little bit of time.
Little consistent steps…
If I do that over the course of a week, I end the week with 28 miles.
It’s not setting weekly mileage records, but it’s not nothing.
In fact, it’s running a bit farther than the messenger did from Marathon, Greece to Athens, Greece.
And, it’s just the result of a little bit of work for a little bit of time.
…over a long period of time…
If I were to do that for 52 weeks, I’d end the year with 1,456 miles.
I went back through my mileage history over the past 10 years. The most running miles I’ve completed in a year is just over 750 miles.
1,456 miles simply by doing 4 miles a day.
30 minutes of work.
…lead to BIG changes.
What Happens If You Start Doing Math?
It’s not rocket science this week.
But, then again, I guess chasing after a BIG, SCARY, HAIRY GOAL never is—which is what makes no sense.
It’s supposed to be BIG.
It’s supposed to be SCARY.
It’s supposed to be HAIRY.
And, maybe that’s the ironic part of the story you’ve always wanted to tell.
Little consistent steps…
What’s your 4 miles of work?
What’s your 30 minutes?
What does that add up to over a 7-day period?
…over a long period of time…
Imagine if you did that on repeat.
What would week after week—for 52 weeks—add up to?
…lead to BIG changes.
Maybe that BIG, SCARY, HAIRY GOAL doesn’t have to be such a BIG…SCARY…HAIRY…thing after all.
Maybe it’s just the natural outcome of a string of little consistent steps.
