Stop Thinking. Just Do!
This week’s blog has been a challenge. I’ve been thinking a lot about it.
So much so that, by my standards, I’m a day late.
I’m big on routine.
And, when routine works out, I usually spend Wednesday mornings tidying up the week’s blog and then hit publish.
Yesterday morning, though, I still had a blank slate.
So, I went out for a run.
About a mile in I saw two deer walking single file on the side of the road. As I approached them, they simply stopped, turned their heads, and just watched me as I ran by.
I thought to myself: “I bet deer don’t think much—each day they probably just do!”
And, that’s when it hit me: Nike has it right…
Solidify Your Thinking
While thinking has a place, we can paralyze ourselves by thinking too much.
It’s easy to get caught in the trap of thinking that thinking more about something will help us have a better understanding.
Case in point, this blog.
Too much thinking, though, leads to a lot of unfulfilled dreams.
More often than not, we have to do to solidify—to clarify—our thinking.
Here’s an example:
I love biking. However, since January I’ve done very little of it.
I’ve thought about it a lot!
But, in the past 6 months, that thinking has done nothing to get me out the door.
This past Friday, my brother-in-law, Dave, asked me if I wanted to bike with him over the weekend.
“Sure!”
So, on Sunday morning, three of us met near a state park and spent 3 hours exploring on our bikes.
And, I loved every minute.
I’d struggled over the past 6 months because I knew I loved biking, but I couldn’t get myself out the door.
No amount of thinking was getting me to do anything.
In a sense, I was paralyzed.
That changed on Sunday and, simply by doing, it’s the only thing I want to do now!
What’s Something You’ve Always Wanted to Do?
For a long time, I wanted to be a coach.
For years I’d thought a lot about it.
The years were passing though—and a dream sat unfulfilled.
I finally started doing.
And, by doing I learned that it’s the only thing I want to do.
I love it and I want to do more of it.
Why?
Because I want to help you do the things that you’ve always thought about. Because by doing you unlock a major door that leads to a more fulfilled life.
So, here’s this week’s action step:
